Two Brannock Humphries & Berman Shareholders Featured at Florida Bar Convention’s Signature Seminar
Steve Brannock and Ceci Berman were both part of the Florida Bar President’s Showcase CLE, “Look Out Below! Blunders, Landmines, and the Consequences of Poor Attorney Performance in the Preservation of Record Error,” which was attended by several hundred lawyers in conjunction with The Florida Bar’s annual meeting.
The seminar included a mix of live and virtual panels that featured Florida Supreme Court Justice Jorge Labarga and many of the state’s most well-known trial and appellate practitioners. The purpose of the event was to educate on best practices in error preservation and to encourage Florida lawyers to pay greater attention to the legal, ethical, and moral consequences of the failure to properly preserve error for appellate review.
Steve Brannock was part of a panel that discussed better error preservation in civil cases. Steve covered topics such as why preserving error is important and what specific steps lawyers must take to ensure that errors are preserved. Ceci Berman moderated a separate panel that reflected on the pitfalls in error preservation and the importance of preservation of error, more broadly, in achieving justice and fostering public trust in the judicial system.
The three-hour presentation was co-sponsored by the CLE Committee of The Florida Bar, The Florida Bar Appellate Practice Section, The Florida Bar Criminal Law Section, and The Florida Bar Trial Lawyers Section.
