Two Brannock Humphries & Berman Lawyers Featured at Popular Appellate Seminar
Ceci Berman presented on the unwritten rules of appellate practice and Joe Eagleton discussed thorny jurisdictional issues along with serving as the moderator and chair of the Hidden Essentials of Appellate Law 2021, a biannual seminar presented by the Florida Bar’s Appellate Practice Section.
The event, which included a star-studded cast of Appellate Section leaders, focused on lesser-known and underutilized principles of appellate practice. At this more advanced seminar, speakers went beyond the basics to offer practice pointers and provide an in-depth look at difficult issues that arise in the appellate process.
Brannock Humphries & Berman attorney Joe Eagleton served as the program chair for the event. He also presented a segment dedicated to jurisdictional traps, speaking about unusual or tricky questions concerning the jurisdiction of the appellate courts.
Joining Joe as a presenter, Brannock Humphries & Berman managing partner Ceci Berman spoke about unwritten rules. She highlighted the “little things” that might not be written down anywhere but that are essential to a successful appeal.
The event also included presentations from other experienced appellate lawyers about preserving the record for appeal, the art of drafting a good reply brief, updates to the appellate procedural rules, and the roles of stare decisis and textualism in the appellate process.
