Celene Humphries Presents At Prestigious Seminar Focusing On Jury Selection
For the second straight year, Brannock & Humphries shareholder Celene Humphries was a featured speaker at the Florida Justice Association’s Christian D. Searcy Voir Dire Institute, an in-depth, interactive, and comprehensive multiday program regarding the jury selection process.
Named after one of Florida’s most prominent trial lawyers, the Searcy Voir Dire Institute offers participants an opportunity to test various strategies for questioning jurors and to learn from a small panel of the most experienced attorneys around the state. Collectively, the faculty have tried hundreds of cases to verdict and have conducted voir dire in virtually every type of civil and criminal case.
Having been lead or sole counsel in more than 250 appeals and having participated in more than 50 trials as appellate counsel, Ms. Humphries’ portion of the event focused on the legal requirements for selecting jurors. Her presentation highlighted recent developments in the case law concerning cause and peremptory challenges, discussed strategies for avoiding juror nondisclosure arguments post-trial, and examined evolving trends in the jury selection process that could cause an appellate court to vacate the jury’s verdict.
