Celene Humphries Presents at Florida Justice Association Seminar
As she has in years past, Brannock Humphries & Berman shareholder Celene Humphries played a key role at the Florida Justice Association’s Christian D. Searcy Voir Dire Institute, an in-depth, interactive, and comprehensive multiday in-person program regarding the jury selection process held in Orlando.
Celene’s principal presentation covered the legal requirements for selecting jurors, focusing especially on peremptory challenges. She reviewed the procedures governing peremptories, emphasized special rules regarding error preservation during voir dire, and highlighted recent developments in the case law governing peremptory challenges. Celene also discussed the hot topics of juror nondisclosure and voir dire procedure. Following her presentation, Celene served as the moderator for a hands-on workshop on picking juries.
Named after one of Florida’s most prominent trial lawyers, the Searcy Voir Dire Institute offers participants an opportunity to test various strategies for communicating with jurors and to learn from a small panel of the most experienced attorneys around the state. Collectively, the faculty have tried hundreds of cases to verdict and have conducted voir dire in virtually every type of civil and criminal case.
