Celene Humphries Joins Faculty For Intensive Appellate Workshop
Brannock & Humphries shareholder Celene Humphries was part of an exclusive faculty of Florida appellate judges and experienced practitioners for a three-day workshop on appellate brief-writing, appellate oral advocacy, and appellate principles of law.
The William A. Van Nortwick Appellate Workshop was presented and hosted by the Appellate Practice Section of the Florida Bar and the Shepard Broad College of Law at Nova Southeastern University. Prior to the program, which is unique to Florida, participants wrote a mock brief regarding a recent Florida Supreme Court case. That brief was then critiqued by appellate judges from each of Florida’s District Courts of Appeal and by five board-certified appellate lawyers from around the state, including Ms. Humphries.
The participants also presented oral argument on the mock case, attended panel discussions with the faculty members, and engaged in small-group instruction on topics like framing issues, drafting the statement of facts, and formulating appellate arguments. All in all, the Van Nortwick Workshop is one of the most intense appellate education programs in the country.
