Ceci Berman Lectures for Family Law Certification Review Course
Brannock Humphries & Berman shareholder Ceci Berman presented on appellate practice as part of the extensive education program offered annually to lawyers sitting for the board certification exam in marital and family law.
Ceci’s portion of the event covered all aspects of appeals, from the various avenues for seeking appellate review to issues of finality and appellate jurisdiction to the procedure and mechanics of filing and litigating an appellate case. Her presentation included core concepts like differentiating between final and non-final orders and dove deeper on thorny topics like concurrent jurisdiction between trial and appellate courts during the appeals process. She also touched on rendition and tolling, rehearing, stays pending appeal, seeking attorney’s fees, and properly preserving error in the trial court.
This 360-degree overview of the entire appellate process, including core concepts along with nuts and bolts, was designed to equip experienced family litigators with the information they need to successfully answer appellate-related questions on the certification exam.
