Joe Eagleton Achieves Appellate Board Certification

Brannock Humphries & Berman shareholder Joe Eagleton is now board certified by The Florida Bar in appellate practice – a distinction that recognizes his special knowledge, skills, and reputation for professionalism and ethics in the practice of law.

Board certification is The Florida Bar’s highest level of evaluation of the competency and experience of attorneys.  Designed to help consumers identify specialists in different practice areas, the process for becoming board certified is extensive.  Certification in appellate practice requires the lawyer to handle at least 25 appellate actions and 5 appellate oral arguments during the 5 years immediately preceding application, to complete 45 hours of approved continuing legal education credits during the 3 years immediately preceding application, to undergo an extensive peer review including from lawyers on the opposite sides of the applicant’s appeals, and to pass a notoriously challenging written examination. 

Given the comprehensive requirements, just 1 in 20 Florida Bar members, or around 5,000 lawyers, are board certified in any area of law.  Of those, only about 200 lawyers statewide have achieved board certification in appellate practice.  With Joe’s certification, Brannock Humphries & Berman now has 6 lawyers on that exclusive list.
