Brannock Humphries & Berman Recognized on Three Lists of Nation’s Top Verdicts
The Top Verdict website has released its lists of the nation’s top verdicts of 2019, and Brannock Humphries & Berman played a key role in several of the featured cases.
Among the 100 highest jury verdicts obtained in the entire United States during the 2019 calendar year was a $37 million verdict awarded by a Broward County jury against R.J. Reynolds and Philip Morris for their decades-long conspiracy to design addictive and deadly cigarettes and to conceal the health effects of those cigarettes from the American public. Brannock Humphries & Berman provided appellate support to the Schlesinger Law Offices during the trial and is currently defending the verdict on appeal.
That same case was also ranked among the nation’s top 20 and top 50 wrongful death verdicts of 2019. It was joined by two other cases in which Brannock Humphries & Berman provided appellate support, both of which were also among the 50 highest verdicts obtained in wrongful death cases. The juries in those two cases, one from Gainesville and the other from Fort Lauderdale, awarded more than $10 million to the family members of deceased smokers. The Gainesville case, which was tried by Avera & Smith, involved a smoker who died at age 38 from laryngeal cancer and left behind two children under the age of 6.
Each year, the Top Verdict website surveys the highest jury verdicts, settlements, and arbitration awards in the country and recognizes the lawyers and law firms who achieved these awards.
