Celene Humphries Presents at Florida Justice Association’s Advanced Trial Skills Seminar

Having spent the last fifteen years providing appellate support during trials, Celene Humphries had a well of first-hand experience to draw on when she addressed the art of persuading judges during a special seminar at the Florida Justice Association’s annual convention.

The annual convention is the Florida Justice Association’s marquee event, spanning four days of seminars that offer information to help members better serve their clients.  Due to the evolving public health situation involving COVID-19, this year’s event was all-virtual, meaning the seminars were presented by webinar and attorneys attended remotely across the state.

Celene’s presentation was part of the Advanced Trial Skills Seminar, a two-day program featuring topics ranging from effective cross-examination techniques to how to prove damages at trial.  Focusing on psychological research and logic fallacies, and speaking from thirty years of experience in the courtroom, Celene highlighted various approaches to persuading judges—the people whose decisions shape legal outcomes.  She explained that the efficacy of an argument often depends on the convincing logic of the argument the lawyer presents and the decision-maker’s psychological response to the argument.

Celene is a longtime member of the Florida Justice Association, a member of the EAGLE Hall of Fame, and a frequent speaker at the organization’s events.  In recognition of her achievements, the Florida Justice Association has presented her with the S. Victor Tipton Award and the EAGLE Legend Award.
